Large Crowd Gathered to Demand Presidential Debate Stage Access for Libertarian Jo Jorgensen

8/8/20 Columbus, OH- Dozens of Libertarians convened near Downtown Columbus on Aug. 8th to form a large convoy of decorated cars that drove around the city to demand access to the first debate taking place on Sept. 29th in Cleveland, OH. The group was part of a nationwide protest that included over 200 separate events. The event, Let Her Speak, was trending on twitter for more than 24 hours.

The Commission on Presidential Debates, CPD, has historically excluded all political parties besides the RNC and DNC. Libertarian Party Presidential Candidate Jo Jorgensen will be on all 50 state ballots on Nov. 3rd and activists say that is a good enough prerequisite to be included. Members of the party, independents and even a local Black Lives Matter group were in attendance. Attendees decorated their cars with Jorgensen signs and slogans like “End all Wars”.

“The crowd that joined us for the convoy was fired up! We turned heads all over downtown and really made an impact today.” Let her Speak organizer Shilo Straw said.

The Libertarian Party is the 3rd largest political party and the only third party on all ballots. A majority of Americans (57%) say that a third party is needed, and protesters say that the Libertarian Party fills that need.

Ohio Campaign manager Jennifer Flower said, “All voters have an interest in getting Jo Jorgensen on the debate stage. We deserve to hear another perspective and that is what #LetHerSpeak is all about. We were thrilled to see support from Libertarians, Independents, and members of the Heartbeat Movement all working towards the same goal.”

Dr. Jo Jorgensen is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Clemson University. She holds a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology (Clemson, 2002) and has taught full-time since 2006. She graduated in 1979 from Baylor University with a B.S. in Psychology and in 1980 from Southern Methodist University with an MBA.
