Who may serve as a delegate to the LPO State Convention?
Delegates must be members of the Libertarian Party of Ohio at the time of the convention. Membership status is governed by Article II of the LPO Constitution and Bylaw 100. If primary voting records are unavailable, the Chair of the Central Committee rules on membership status.
What does being a โmemberโ mean?
A member must affirm the LPO pledge and meet the requirements of one of the recognized membership classes. Supporting and Lifetime Members must also be registered voters who did not vote in the most recent primary of another political party.
Who is automatically eligible to be a delegate?
Until the Libertarian Party of Ohio attains major party status, the following individuals are delegates by status:
- Candidates for statewide office, excluding judicial offices
- Candidates for United States Senate
- Candidates for United States House of Representatives
- Candidates for the Ohio General Assembly
- Incumbent Libertarians for the above offices when no successor election is held
- Members of the State Central Committee
- Members of the State Executive Committee
- Chairs of affiliated County Central Committees
- Chairs of affiliated County Executive Committees

Can additional delegates be seated?
Yes. The State Central Committee may approve up to 500 additional delegates to the State Convention. bylaws-of-the-libertarian-partyโฆ
What if my county has no recognized affiliate?
For counties without a recognized affiliate, the Convention Credentials Committee, or the Central Committee Chair if no Credentials Committee exists, has authority to seat delegates for that county. the-constitution-of-the-libertaโฆ
Who is not eligible to participate as a delegate?
No person may vote or participate in convention business unless they affirm:
- The United States Constitution
- The LPO Constitution, Bylaws, and Guiding Principles

How many votes does a delegate receive?
Each seated delegate receives one vote on each question before the convention.
Proxy voting, unit rule voting, and slate voting are not permitted. the-constitution-of-the-libertaโฆ
Who sets delegate numbers and procedures?
The State Central Committee sets delegate apportionment and selection procedures in accordance with the LPO Constitution, LPO Bylaws, and Ohio Revised Code section 3513.11.
What document controls if there is a conflict?
Theย LPO Constitution is the controlling document. Bylaws apply only where consistent with the Constitution.ย
